Content of the leadership program

In our Leadership Program we talk about leadership in the 21st century – which competencies are needed and how can personal responsibility be cultivated in teams in order to act goal-oriented?

There are numerous concepts and buzzwords on the subject of leadership; Servant Leadership, Authentic Leadership, Positive Leadership, Humble Leadership, Leadership and Self-Deception, Agile Leadership, to name but a few.

In our view, these newer trends can be mapped in three important components of effective leadership in the VUCA context: We need the role of the inspiring ‘sense maker’ who helps to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty; the role of the ‘potential developer’ who empowers employees and thus supports them in dealing with complexity; and the role of the ‘stabilizer’ who creates reliable and empowering structures and processes.

We go through and work through all three roles with the participants and help them to determine their own position and further development through conceptual impulses, experimental, experience-based and reflexive exercises that enable them to understand, apply and integrate what they have learned.

  • to gain an empowering understanding of the historical development of leadership
  • to understand and internalize the demands on a manager in the 21st century
  • to recognise and develop the development potential at company and individual level
  • to raise awareness of the company’s own strategy and to clearly identify and communicate the contribution of the (divisional) units
    to set a framework for themselves and the team that balances structure and freedom and thus serves as a guard rail
    to practice authenticity and to lead by example
  • to understand the theory of human development
  • to recognize potential and to be able to motivate intrinsically,
  • to conduct goal-oriented and appreciative discussions and
  • to use feedback as a means to facilitate self-reflection and development

Our methodology – The leadership triangle

In our program we work with the Leadership Triangle, a self-developed framework that describes the three competencies of effective leadership in the VUCA context:

Those of the leader, (“the sense maker”), the facilitator (“the potential developer”) and the manager (“the stabilizer”). 
The framework invites people to make their own abilities visible, to identify growth potential and to build up the necessary competencies in others.

  • The leader role opens up new fields and makes sense – it sets the purpose and direction. It thus helps in dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • The facilitator role helps employees to develop themselves further and make the most of their potential. It helps to deal with complexity by including different perspectives.
  • The manager role creates space and framework to become active, establishes stability through enabling processes and structures, and continuously evaluates and adjusts. It thus helps to deal with volatility.

Program modules

The Leadership Program is based on the three competencies that make up effective leadership in an agile context.

We discuss the role of the leader with the participants – we show how the formulation of a concrete purpose and the discovery and development of new opportunities can provide a framework of orientation for employees. We further explore the role of the facilitator – we look at how employees are intrinsically motivated, how their potential can be developed and convey relevant communication and coaching skills.

The role of the manager discusses structures and processes that empower employees and give them the necessary framework to achieve their goals as efficiently as possible. We impart process knowledge and design in order to uncover weaknesses and leverage potentials, thus increasing performance and value creation through continuous adaptation.

Through a combination of conceptual content, group activities, individual reflection and practical tasks, the participants learn ways of thinking and acting that strengthen them in the three roles and make them more successful.

Our philosophy

With the advancing transition from the industrial age to the networked age, the evolution of the economy and its companies is also challenged in terms of leadership. Dependent ‘workers’ are increasingly becoming independent knowledge workers who keep their means of production in mind – the further development of skills such as empathy, creativity and generative thinking are becoming more important in order to make meaningful and valuable contributions.

Leadership is no longer based on subordination and obedience, but aims at self-management of the people entrusted to it. Leadership now provides orientation and takes place at eye level; good leadership creates a framework in which people and their ideas can unfold for a common purpose.

Virtual coaching

The special relationship between coach and coachee is the most important aspect of our leadership training. Together we find the appropriate digital medium to build and maintain this relationship in the virtual space. In this format, we rarely use many tools and media and focus on direct exchange, reflections and interventions, which can easily be conducted digitally.

We adapt each leadership program to the given context and develop the right mix of face-to-face meetings and digital exchange with you.
